1. Atenolol stimulates
beta-2 receptors and hence can be used in the treatment of bronchial asthma.
2. Ischaemic
heart disease is a condition characterised by an imbalance in oxygen supply
and demand of the heart muscle.
3. ACE
inhibitors must not be combined with diuretics, as diuretics antagonise
the antihypertensive effect.
4. Amlodipine
causes more salt and water retention than nifedipine.
5. Patients
with hypertension are always advised to take anti-anxiety drugs together
with specific antihypertensive medication.
6. Nitroglycerin is not effective on oral administration.
7. Cough is an important adverse effect with enalapril.
8. Orally administered beta blockers are suited for prophylaxis in angina
pectoris, but for the treatment of an acute attack, sublingual nitroglycerin
is appropriate.
9. ACE inhibitors inhibit the conversion anigiotensin I to angiotensin II,
thus reducing peripheral resistance.
10. Lisinopril is contraindicated in patients with congestive cardiac failure.
